Pineapple Mauls Trainer at Vegetable World

MIAMI, Florida - A vegetable trainer was seriously injured yesterday when a pineapple he was working with turned on him.

The incident occurred at Miami's Vegetable Land, the largest theme park of its type in the world. The trainer was doing a show in front of a large audience with several pineapples, in a special auditorium designed for the purpose of vegetable shows. It seems one pineapple, called Blacky, became aggravated by camera flashes.

"It was terrible," said Marc Lerouse, a tourist from Montreal. "One minute the pineapple is just sitting there, the next it's all over the poor guy. The crowd started screaming and all these security were in there with stun guns and tranquilizers."

Fortunately for the trainer Blacky was subdued and medics were able to perform emergency first aid, before he was air lifted to a nearby hospital. His current situation is now listed as stable.

Michael Summons, the founder and owner of Vegetable World, is a celebrity figure world wide due to his documentaries and his fearless methods of wrestling and capturing wild fruit and vegetables. He recently received bad publicity when he allowed his six month old daughter to crawl around the carrot pens- a stunt condemned by the world media and labeled foolish and extremely dangerous by child welfare groups. The pineapple attack is therefore very poorly timed for Vegetable World.

"I am shocked by what has occurred," Summons said in a media conference. "Blacky has been with us since he was a baby and has never displayed any vicious behaviour. We will be investigating the incident in depth, but I can assure you that it is perfectly safe at Vegetable World."

However, local fruit and vegetable officials have called for the park to be closed down. "The place is just not safe," said Orlando Fruit Inspector, Martin Delacy. "Summons has cut corners and it's all about entertainment. Fruit and vegetables should be enjoyed in their proper context, not in some Disney inspired theme park. I'm not surprised a trainer has been hurt. It's only a matter or time before it's a member of the public. Summons is to blame. You can't blame the fruit, they're just acting on instinct."
