Buy 3,249 Delegates, Get 795 Free!
by Byron Kent, Thu. 13 Mar 2008The Democratic primary race finds itself floundering with no frontrunner - and no possibility for a knock-out win... Fortunately, decades ago the Democratic elders foresaw the potential for such a situation, and in their wisdom established an elite class of guardians of truth and right and party unity: the Super Delegates!
America Changes Choices
by Byron Kent, Wed. 16 Jan 2008The word that sums up the presidential campaign this year is "change." Voters have expressed this sentiment by not only choosing candidates who promise change, but also by changing which candidate they choose in each successive state. You might call it "the audacity of votes."
Iowans Not Doing Their Jobs, Politically
by Byron Kent, Wed. 19 Dec 2007Every four years, America looks to Iowa for one reason, and one reason alone. The nation relies on the good people of the "Caucus Me" state to whittle the presidential field down to a handful of TV-friendly frontrunners for the rest of us.
Ann Coulter Follows O'Reilly Playbook
by Byron Kent, Mon. 22 Oct 2007Shocking none but a handful of her less-conscious fans, media personality Ann Coulter revealed on her website last week that her public persona has been an act, aimed mostly at garnering attention for herself and secondarily at exposing the uglier side of American extremism. So it came as no surprise when the president made note of terms the U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam had contributed to our language in a speech to veterans. "Boat people," "re-education camps," and "killing fields" were the words he singled out.
What is curious is his omission of the rich lode of words originated or popularized just prior to that period, during the Vietnam War itself.
Accountability Is No Way To Win
by Byron Kent, Tue. 10 Jul 2007The surge is underway, the war is funded, freedom is being furthered. Why clutter that rosy picture up with talk of benchmarks and timetables? The US military does not work that way - it's a laid back organization that doesn't deal well with structure and clearly defined goals. Note to Congress: Support the troops! Let them figure it out without getting all authoritarian about it.
The Right to Profitable Speech
by Byron Kent, Fri. 20 Apr 2007In the mad rush to make politically correct denunciations of Don Imus, journalists and celebrities have neglected the beneficial role such talk has in society. As unpopular as it may be, Brainsnap must stand up for certain rights. In this instance, it is the ability to rake in cash by offending folks that is under attack.
