Africa Eternally Grateful to Angelina and Brad

Africans today celebrated the wondrous news that Hollywood starlet and beautiful person, Angelina Jolie chose to give birth on their continent.

"It the greatest thing to have happened here," an excited Professor of History, Antwon Nurubu, from Nairobi University told Brainsnap. "Our history is so uninteresting compared with Europe and America. Nothing exciting ever happens here, until Angelina's baby."

"I mean the evolution of humanity, the pyramids, the Carthaginians, European imperialism, and the countless wars that have all occurred on this continent hardly compare to the birth of a child to Hollywood royalty."

Google has reliably informed Brainsnap that Brad and Angelina's baby is indeed the most important news event, far outstripping less significant events such as the Iraq war or Indonesian earthquake in levels of interest. Hundreds of thousands of eager seekers of knowledge have typed in 'Brad and Angelina's baby' into the world's leading search engine.

For the news media, the story of the birth is easily the most important current event since Tom and Katie had their child. Fox News executive director, Suzy Renfrie, told Brainsnap, "We've assigned 85% of our staff to reporting this birth. We pulled out our entire Baghdad bureau and sent them to Namibia so that our viewers can remain informed."

When queried as to why such a large proportion of their staff was required, Renfrie replied, "Of course they're needed, what a stupid question! The public need to know what color booties the baby is wearing or how Angelina's hair is coping with the stress of child birth. I think that's far more important than a few American soldiers and hundreds of Iraqis being killed, don't you?"

When asked about the earthquake in Indonesia, political strife in East Timor or a miner's rescue in China, Renfrie stared blankly, then mumbled something about how important it was that the public knows how Brad felt when he first was notified that a hired nanny had changed the baby's diaper.

Meanwhile, celebrations continue across Africa. In Mogadishu, a twenty-one gun salute was held; however it ran out of control and ended up being a two thousand and thirty-three round salute when the guns were turned on a local market place. A number of people gleefully gave their lives when they strayed into the path of some of the celebratory rounds.

In Darfur, hundreds delayed their deaths from starvation in order to still be alive when the news came through of the baby's birth. "I can die happily now, knowing that a couple as famous as Brad and Angelina deigned to come to my continent and have their baby," a thirty-three year old mother reportedly said before passing away.

In Kinshasa, millions of people took to the street to celebrate the news. "We love you Angelina and Brad," they screamed. A petition was created and signed by thousands to have Africa renamed to Angelinaandbradland. "We plan to send this to every country on the continent, and hopefully the ground swell of popular support will force the people with the power to rename our continent," petition organizer Sulu Dwingshi said.
